OUTREACH

Hospitality Center-- Who We Are

Hospitality Center is an outreach ministry of the Episcopal Diocese of Milwaukee, hosted inside St. Luke's.  The Hospitality Center is a community resource center and meal site that provides service to the homeless and near homeless people of Racine. The Hospitality Center is open to all people without regard to social status, religious, or financial standing.

No matter what your reason for stopping in, one thing is guaranteed: you won't leave the same as when you entered.  We believe that providing hospitality to those who have nowhere to go may lead us to an encounter with Christ, and that by opening our church doors we increase the chance to allow true holiness to find us.

We invite you to drop in and visit!

Racine Vocational Ministries

St. Luke's houses and provides financial support to this highly successful ministry which offers training for life and work through development of attitudes, habits, and skills that reflect human dignity.

RVM offers: vocational counseling, job-readiness training, life-skills education, job retention support, job-seeker support groups, referral services, and spiritual counseling for those reentering society after incarceration.

RVM credits their success to believing that each client who walks through their doors is an opportunity to welcome and serve Christ.

Saturday Sack Lunches

Once every three months, St. Luke's, in conjunction with First Methodist Church, produces more than 70 sack lunches of sandwiches, fruit juice, chips and cookies to deliver to those who need them. St. Luke’s is one of a number of churches in Racine that participate in the Sack Lunch Program.

Typically, St. Luke’s is responsible for five to six Saturdays per year. On our designated Saturday, volunteers meet at First United Methodist Church, 745 Main Street, at 10:30 a.m. to make the lunches, after which they are distributed at noon to the public.  The Program is organized by St. Monica’s Guild and volunteers provide the ingredients needed.  Anyone in the church who is interested in helping is welcome to join us.

The Haiti Project

St. Luke's supports the church, school, clinic, and agricultural program of St. Marc's Church and school in Jeannette, Haiti through the Diocese of Milwaukee Haiti Project. Parishioners may also sponsor students at St. Marc's School separately. Individuals are encouraged to participate in mission trips and work with our partners in Jeannette through opportunities scheduled by the Haiti Project coordinator.

St. Vincent De Paul Meals

The St. Vincent de Paul Tuesday Community Meal program began in 1983. It currently has eleven local churches of various faiths and the Welcome Wagon of Racine organization participating throughout the entire year. St. Luke's Episcopal Church has supported this important outreach program for many years.

On our designated dates, four per year, we provide a hot meal for 50 to 75 guests. Our parishioners support this program by preparing approximately eight to nine casseroles, or donating cash so that we can purchase salad, fruit, and bread to complete the meal. About eight parishioners volunteer their time at the site to serve and clean up after the meal. This outreach event is greatly appreciated by the people who attend and gives the volunteers a heartwarming feeling.
